Estudio sobre la capacidad de toma de decisiones en la etapa final del Alzheimer

Abstract

Introducción: La población afectada por el Alzheimer está creciendo debido al aumento de la esperanza de vida. Los cuidadores familiares tienen que tomar decisiones difíciles en la etapa final de la enfermedad. La investigación acerca de la capacidad que tienen los familiares de hacerse frente a la toma de decisiones en la etapa final del Alzheimer es escasa e insuficiente. Objetivo: Explorar los conocimientos que tienen los cuidadores familiares de personas con Alzheimer sobre la toma de decisiones al final de la vida. Metodología: El estudio se llevará a cabo con metodología cualitativa, se realizará un estudio descriptivo con grupos focales de personas cuidadoras familiares en el Centro de Salud de Santa Clara de Burgos, siguiendo como marco teórico la teoría fundamentada, la cual genera teoría a partir de los datos obtenidos. El muestreo será teórico y se pretende alcanzar la saturación teórica, se analizarán los resultados mediante un método comparativo constante. El método será inductivo generando teoría a partir de un conjunto de conceptos interrelacionados que explican el fenómeno estudiado. Implicaciones de los resultados: Con este estudio se pretende dar a conocer que los cuidadores familiares no están capacitados para tomar decisiones en la etapa final del Alzheimer. Además tras este estudio se pueden llevar a cabo otras líneas de investigación como una intervención para ver si la ayuda de los profesionales sanitarios mejora la capacidad en la toma de decisiones.

Introduction: The population affected by Alzheimer´s disease is growing because of the increase in life expectancy. Family caregivers have to make difficult choices in the final stage of illness. Research on the ability of family members to face decision-making in the final stage of Alzheimer´s is insuficient and limited. Objective: To explore the knowledge that family caregivers of people with Alzheimer´s have on decision-making at the end of life. Methodology: The study will be carried out with qualitive methology, a descriptive study will be accomplished with focal groups of family caregivers at the Santa Clara Health Center from Burgos, following as a theoretical framework the theory based, which generates theory from the data obtained. Sampling will be theoretical and theoretical saturation is sought, the results will be analyzed using a constant comparative method. The method will be inductive generating theory from a set of interrelated concepts that explain the phenomenon studied. Implications of the Results: This study aims to show that family caregivers are not trained to make decisions in the final stage of Alzheimer´s. In addition, after this study, other lines of research can be achieved as an intervention to see if the aid of health professionals improves the ability to make decisions.
