Disponibilidad Léxica en Inglés como Lengua Extranjera: un Estudio Comparativo entre el Alumnado AICLE y no AICLE

Abstract

RESUMEN: El objetivo del estudio que a continuación se presenta es averiguar si la utilización del inglés como lengua vehicular en el aprendizaje de contenidos curriculares (AICLE) está relacionado con una mayor competencia léxica. Para comprobar este hecho se lleva a cabo una prueba de disponibilidad léxica. Con el fin mencionado, se compara el vocabulario producido por cuatro grupos de aprendices pertenecientes a dos centros educativos diferentes que aprenden inglés a través de dos tipos de instrucción: dos grupos con inglés como lengua vehicular (AICLE) más inglés como asignatura, frente a dos grupos con inglés únicamente como asignatura (NO AICLE). Nuestros resultados nos confirman la supremacía del alumnado AICLE, cuya disponibilidad léxica es mayor; producen un mayor número de palabras en todos y cada uno de los campos semánticos testados.

ABSTRACT: The aim of the study hereby presented is to determine whether the use of English in Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is related to a higher lexical competence. In order to check this fact a test of lexical availability was carried out. To this end, we compared the vocabulary produced by four different groups of students belonging to two different High Schools and who learn English through two types of instruction: two groups with English as a vehicular language (CLIL) and English as a subject, compared to two groups of students with English as a subject only (NON CLIL). Results confirmed the supremacy of CLIL students, whose lexical availability is higher. They produce a higher number of words in the semantic fields examined.
