Abstract

RESUMEN: La Geografía del Género es una rama de la geografía con una corta pero a la vez trascendente y relevante trayectoria. Las investigaciones, han puesto de manifiesto las desigualdades existentes entre hombres y mujeres desde una perspectiva espacial y socio-económica. Nos encontramos ante una ciencia social clave para conseguir una serie de cambios en la sociedad en la que vivimos; conseguir la igualdad entre hombres y mujeres. Las instituciones educativas, se convierten en agentes activos para aumentar las probabilidades de conseguir dicho objetivo. Son las encargadas de mostrar al alumnado cómo las mujeres han participado y continúan participando en el desarrollo y avances de las sociedades. Para ello, es conveniente apoyarse en la Geografía del Género como elemento conductor de la enseñanza de las Ciencias Sociales así como eje motivador para radicar las discriminaciones y desigualdades; tanto dentro como fuera de las aulas.

ABSTRACT: The Geography of Gender is a branch of geography with a short but at the same time transcendent and relevant trajectory. Research, shows the inequalities between men and women from a spatial and socio-economic point of view. This social science can help us to end gender inequality. To do this, we need everyone involve. Educational institutions become active agents to increase the chances of achieving this goal. They must teach and explain students how women have participated and continue participating in the development of societies. They must show that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities because not all woman and men have been afforded the same rights. High schools can finish with this inequality thoughts.
