abstract = {El Canal de Castilla, una de las principales obras hidráulicas y de infraestructura de España, fue construido entre los siglos XVIII y XIX con el objetivo de facilitar el transporte de mercancías en el interior del país. Su construcción se enmarca en la revolución de los transportes de la Europa del S.XVIII, respondiendo a la necesidad de mejorar la comunicación y el comercio entre la meseta norte de la península y el mar Cantábrico. 
Esta vía navegable inconclusa supuso una revolución preindustrial la cual permitió sacar a Castilla del aislamiento, trayendo un gran desarrollo socioeconómico a la región por donde transcurría, así como a los puertos que vieron incrementadas sus exportaciones. El transporte de mercancías por el Canal de Castilla tuvo su apogeo entre 1849 y 1860, cuando la llegada del ferrocarril marcaría el inicio de su decadencia hasta 1959 que se cierra a la navegación. 
En la actualidad, el Canal de Castilla ha dejado de ser una vía de transporte comercial, pero sigue siendo relevante desde el punto de vista cultural, turístico y medioambiental. Durante las últimas décadas, diversas iniciativas han buscado recuperar y conservar el canal, promoviendo su uso para el turismo fluvial y actividades recreativas como el senderismo y el ciclismo. Además, se ha convertido en un patrimonio histórico y natural, siendo objeto de estudios e intervenciones para preservar su trazado y los elementos arquitectónicos que lo componen, como esclusas, acueductos, puentes y todo el patrimonio industrial a orillas de este. 
El objetivo de este Trabajo Fin de Grado es estudiar el desarrollo de la navegación en el Canal de Castilla hasta nuestros días mediante un análisis bibliográfico y documental. A través de este análisis se pretende encontrar las limitaciones y potencialidades que ofrece el Canal actualmente para recoger y plantear nuevas estrategias de desarrollo en torno a esta infraestructura.
Este Trabajo Fin de Grado aporta al campo de la ingeniería marítima el estudio de la navegación interior a través de una de las obras de ingeniería más destacadas del panorama nacional.},
abstract = {The Canal of Castile was one of the main hydraulic and infrastructure works in Spain. It was built between the 18th and 19th centuries with the aim of facilitating the transport of goods in the interior of the country. Its construction falls within the framework of the transport revolution in 18th-century Europe, responding to the need to improve communication and trade between the northern plateau of the peninsula and the Cantabrian Sea. 
This unfinished waterway became a pre-industrial revolution that brought Castilla region out of isolation, bringing great socio-economic development to the region through which it passed, as well as to the ports, which saw an increase in exports. The transport of goods along the Canal of Castile had its heyday between 1849 and 1860, when the arrival of the railway marked the beginning of its decline until 1959, when it was closed to navigation. 
Today, the Canal of Castile is no longer a commercial transport route, but it is still culturally, touristically and environmentally relevant. During the last decades, several initiatives have sought to recover and conserve the canal, promoting its use for river tourism and recreational activities such as hiking and cycling. In addition, it has become a historical and natural heritage, being the object of studies and interventions to preserve its layout and the architectural elements that compose it, such as locks, aqueducts, bridges and all the industrial heritage on its banks. 
The aim of this Bachelor´s Thesis is to study the development of navigation on the Canal of Castile up to the present day by means of a bibliographical and documentary analysis. The aim of this analysis, the aim is to find the limitations and potentialities that the Canal currently offers in order to collect and propose new development strategies around this infrastructure. 
This Bachelor´s Thesis brings to the field of maritime engineering the study of inland navigation through one of the most outstanding engineering works on the national scene.},
