abstract = {RESUMEN: Esta Tesis Doctoral busca esclarecer el papel de las leyes y actores religiosos en la búsqueda de orden y protección en el Mediterráneo durante un largo siglo XVII. El énfasis se ha puesto tanto en la agencia de las instituciones católicas como en las personas sujetas a las mismas por medio del bautismo. Se analizarán estas dinámicas en tres ejes geográficos: Albania-Roma, el Magreb-la Monarquía Hispánica y el Archipiélago Otomano-Malta. En cada uno de estos espacios fronterizos surgen problemáticas diferentes con respecto a la identidad, la tradición, la sangre, la voluntad, el miedo, la seguridad y el orden. Las soluciones fueron negociadas entre los centros de decisión, los agentes locales y las personas afectadas por la legislación. Esto permite plantear una aproximación a las religiones monoteístas como conjuntos de leyes con consecuencias reales para los fieles, pero también como instituciones que tuvieron que competir con fuentes paralelas de autoridad y protección para prevalecer en distintos territorios},
abstract = {ABSTRACT: This PhD Thesis aims to explain the role of religious laws and actors in the quest for order and protection in the Mediterranean during a long seventeenth century. The focus is set both in the agency of Catholic institutions and the people subjected to them by the
sacrament of baptism. These dynamics will be analyzed in three geographical axes: Albania-Rome, the Maghrib-the Spanish Monarchy and the Ottoman Archipelago-Malta. Different problematics arise in each of these border zones regarding identity, tradition, blood, will, fear, security and order. The solutions to them were negotiated between the decision-making centers, the local agents and the peoples affected by the legislation. This helps to approach monotheistic religions as sets of laws with actual consequences for the faithful, but also as institutions that had to compete with parallel sources of authority and protection to prevail in different territories.},
