abstract = {RESUMEN: El objetivo de este Trabajo de Fin de Grado es analizar la Ley de Okun para las 17 regiones españolas (quedan excluidas del análisis Ceuta y Melilla) y para España como conjunto, para el periodo 1995-2015. Esta ley postula que existe una relación inversa entre el crecimiento del PIB y el desempleo. Para analizar si se cumple, primero se han seleccionado los datos de interés, en este caso, PIB real y desempleo para cada región. Una vez recopilados los datos, se han eliminado las tendencias mediante el uso del filtro Hodrick-Prescott, ya que, al trabajar con series temporales y no saber si son estacionarias o no, se corre el riesgo de caer en regresión espuria1. También el filtro nos ha servido para calcular el componente cíclico de ambas variables. Teniendo los datos de cada región, se ha utilizado el programa Gretl para realizar el análisis econométrico necesario para obtener los coeficientes de Okun. Una vez obtenidos, se puede confirmar que la Ley de Okun se cumple en todas las regiones que se han estudiado, y en España como conjunto. Todos los coeficientes poseen signo negativo y todos son significativos al menos con un 10% de significatividad. Además, se han analizado los coeficientes por sub-periodos, y se confirma que de un periodo a otro la sensibilidad del PIB respecto a cambios en el desempleo aumenta. Como cabe esperar, los coeficientes son diferentes en cada región, debido a que existen diferencias regionales que lo provocan. Estas diferencias recaen principalmente en la estructura ocupacional de cada región, intensidad del uso de contratos temporales, en la productividad del trabajo y en el crecimiento de la productividad. Tener en cuenta las diferencias entre regiones es fundamental a la hora de implementar políticas que reduzcan el desempleo o aumenten el PIB, ya que cada región necesita medidas que se ajusten perfectamente a sus necesidades. En algunas ocasiones, políticas a nivel nacional pueden implementarse también a nivel regional, sin tener que realizar cambios, pero como veremos a lo largo del trabajo, esto no siempre beneficia a todas las regiones.},
abstract = {ABSTRACT: The aim of this Final Degree Project is to analyse the Okun’s Law for the 17 Spanish regions (not included Ceuta and Melilla) and for Spain as a whole, over the period 1995- 2015. This law connects in a negative way the GDP growth with unemployment. To do so, firstly, data of interest has been selected, we refer to GDP and unemployment data for each region. Once we have the data, and with the help of the Excel program, trends have been removed with the help of the Hodrick-Prescott filter. This was necessary in order to avoid spurious regressions. The filter, also has helped us to calculate the cyclical component for both variables. Having the data of each region, the program Gretl has been used to make the econometric analysis necessary to obtain the Okun’s coefficients. Once obtained, we can confirm that the Okun’s Law holds for all the studied regions, and for Spain. All the coefficients have negative sign, which is crucial to confirm the relation, and all of them are significant at least at a 10% of significance. In addition, coefficients have been analysed by sub-periods and we can confirm that the sensitivity of the GDP with respect to changes in unemployment increases form one period to another. As expected, coefficients are different in each region, due to the existence of regional differences that provoke it. These differences mainly rely on the occupational structure, intensity of the use of temporal contracts and in the labour productivity. It is fundamental to have in mind these differences across regions when it comes to implement policies that can reduce unemployment or increase the GDP, because each region needs measures that fit perfectly with their necessities. In some occasions, national level policies can also be applied at a regional level, without making any changes, but, as we are going to see along this project, this does not always benefit all regions.},
