abstract = {RESUMEN: La Diabetes Mellitus (DM) tipo 1 es una de las enfermedades crónicas más frecuentes en niños y en los últimos años la incidencia de esta enfermedad está aumentando.
En la edad pediátrica existen tres tipos de diabetes: DM tipo 1, DM tipo 2 y DM tipo MODY, aunque la predominante es la DM tipo 1. Cada una de ellas tiene unas características particulares, siendo común en todas ellas la hiperglucemia, que es el principal signo a tener en cuenta. El único tratamiento farmacológico disponible para la DM tipo 1 es la insulina. Las complicaciones derivadas de un inadecuado tratamiento provocan serias complicaciones a corto y largo plazo. Los profesionales de enfermería intervienen en la prevención y control de esta enfermedad.Los cuidados enfermeros durante todo el proceso de la enfermedad, y en todos los niveles asistenciales, son imprescindibles. Estos cuidados se realizan desde el momento del diagnóstico, tratamiento y durante el posterior seguimiento a lo largo de la vida del paciente.},

There are three types of Diabetes Mellitus with most prevalence in paediatric patients: DM type 1, DM type 2 and DM MODY's type, but the main type is DM type 1.
